Yes, smoke coming out of a PC is bad. I think that if that happens, the laptop is beyond repair, or (at the very best) it’s just not worth repairing. I don’t believe it was just a single component dying. But whatever, it works in a story, so it’s fine.

There's actually quite a number of factors that could cause a computer to smoke, but the one reason I can think of at the top of my head is a PSU failure since it's happened to me personally, albeit it wasn't nearly as much smoke as produced by Akane's laptop.

You don't necessarily have to do anything, if the laptop is old or components are getting old they can potentially crash like this :/

I am actually enough of a computer-expert to know how, although it is something I experienced with a desk-top computer rather than a laptop, simply by using/installing a certain brand of mother-board, believe it or not, the actual board itself ended up catching on fire, yes, actual fire, not just smoke coming out; this was, hmm, I think it happened around a decade ago; good thing I didn't leave it unattended lest the entire house end up being burned down to rubble.

Then there are other things that can cause out-right crashes, but, most people probably shouldn't need to worry about that as long as they're not installing every programme that exists onto their system and try to constantly run them all simultaneously...

I mostly refuse putting any liquids by my macbook after my last one was isekai'd when I spilt milk all over it 🥹😫, it was a sad day!! Though sometimes I lax and have liquids near because I'm being lazy, I need to have more discipline aha. But I'd normally advise anyone to NOT EVER put any liquids by their electronics or suffer like I did...

to be fair, i dont quite understand why people feel the need to sip on drink when they are doing something on pc....i mean, if i want to drink, i went to the kitchen and drink it there....came back to my pc after i done with the drink....cuz you know, water should never be near any electronics.....the act of sipping on drink simply isnt something i could enjoy too......i always drink a whole glass whenever i have a drink...a few sips taste like nothing...it wont make my thirst to go away too...i guess, it's related to habits they grew up with....i grew up in poor family....so my parents would get mad at us if we place potentially harmful items near the electronics cuz they arent cheap...

all CPU turns off when over temp limit... is most likely power supply problems.. battery or contacts on flexes and such... its repairable...

Yamada said the plug for the power adapter was melted. Its probably that there was a short when the wires in the cord broke from bending if she moves her laptop around alot.

Which is why I replace the cooling material with better stuff (factory gray crap sucks) after a while and clean out the dust. Worst case, I might need to change the fan.

It should be beyond repair, smoke is a pretty big deal especially if something is melted

If you move around a lot like me, you have no choice but buying gaming laptops. And after the chip shortage, the prices are not that much different anymore.

I have minimal room for a desktop pc and rarely play games but like to play them every now and again-I usually use my computer on my floor or on my bed so really a gaming laptop is the perfect solution for people like me lol

My mother loved buying laptops and putting them on her lap to work with on the couch and guess what every laptop she owned had a dead battery in the end and had to be hooked up to the power else they wouldn't work.....

my laptop battery kinda dead i guess, cuz it wont stay for long if charged....might as well just connect it into the power supply the whole time.....sometimes, the laptop wont even detect the power and the charging light dont even light up when the battery is connected...so, i just remove the battery entirely....the screen is also broken already...for the first time, i had the screen replaced.....for the second time it broke again, i decided to buy a new monitor....the whole monitor cost less than replacing the laptop lcd screen.....now, my laptop doesnt look like a laptop anymore..it's plugged in the whole time with a monitor attached to it....i didnt ditch the laptop yet cuz it still works just fine so far with that setup. If it finally broke, i'm not gonna bother with laptop anymore since i'm done with my studies.....i dont particularly need portable pc anymore....laptop price also almost double the price of normal pc with similar spec....definitely a waste of money unless we need to move around alot. alot of those works can be done easily from tablets nowadays...there's less reason to actually buy a laptop currently....

You can replace the battery though.

its a power supply issue 9 times out of 10 and usually just a lose connection, should be an easy fix.

Battery problems produce smoke sometimes.. its repairable.. and the easiest to repair.. i work in a pc repair shop before... hm hm

easy to repair until they're not ahaha orz.. I'm still trying to figure out the issue with my previous laptop-it only turns on without the battery inside; not an issue with the cord, outlet, dc jack, or battery itself after having tried replacing all.. I've been told it's likely the motherboard but I'm still unsure :')

sounds like a short in the battery cable or the connector, but that is an educated guess.

for that to happen FOS must be like Genshin Impact at Highest graphics and by the looks of her laptop it doesn't feel like it has a dGPU and she has been running it on the integrated ones that also middle ranged (i5/ryzen 5) 😭😭

I actually had that once, but it was within the year warranty. They shipped it back to the manufacture and fixxed it right up.... lasted 3 or 4 years after that.
